Who We Are?

ABOUT HEALTH EDUCATION PREVENTION AND PROMOTION, INC. (HEPP)

Health Education, Prevention & Promotion, Inc. (HEPP) was founded in 2012, to empower the South Florida minority communities, and to promote the adoption of healthy behaviors through awareness, education, guidance and counseling.  HEPP staff has extensive experience working with the uninsured and underinsured individuals from diverse racial and ethnic minority groups in Miami-Dade and Broward County.  HEPP’s goals and objectives are focused on improving quality of life, reducing health disparities, and alleviating the burden of disability and death from diabetes, cancer, heart disease/stroke, and other chronic diseases/illness. To reach its goals, HEPP provides culturally and linguistically appropriate education on chronic disease prevention and health screenings. HEPP promotes healthy behaviors and lifestyle changes through presentations on nutrition and physical activity. In addition HEPPstaff links community members to low cost or free screening services and provides care coordination to all clients with abnormal results.

Since its inception in 2012, HEPP has provided health education directed towards improving health literacy to many residents of the diverse community of Miami-Dade and Broward counties. HEPP has been able to reach the most difficult to reach segment of the community due to experience and diversity of its staff and board members as well as the organization’s strong commitment to its goals. HEPP’s mission is to empower the community to develop healthy habits for greater health through awareness, education, guidance and counseling.

The facts are alarming. Much of chronic disease, complications of chronic disease and related cost are preventable. Behaviors such as poor diet, lack of physical activity, use of tobacco and ignoring risks like family history result in a dramatic increase in chronic conditions.

These facts are our driving force to develop and implement evidence-based effective programs such as:

  •       Early detection of cancer and screening program
  •      Diabetes prevention and control including prevention of diabetes complications program
  •      Heart disease and stroke prevention program
  •      Improving physical activity and nutrition program
  •      HIV/AIDS program

Our founders, staff, board members and volunteers are committed to reducing the impact of chronic diseases through education and through partnering with other organizations one person at a time, one family at a time, one family at a time, one community at a time!

                                                                  How we help?

HEPP targets the South Florida minority communities especially the Haitian community who often experience a disproportionate burden
of preventable disease, death, and disability compared with non-minorities. Our current programs are focus on cancer and cancer prevention. Our aim is to implement new programs on diabetes and heart disease prevention in addition to our current programs. Our approach is a three prong approach of education-screening-support.
